Arnold S. Stiebel, Ph.D. is an American
rabbi . He is a member of both theRabbinical Assembly , which is the rabbinical body ofConservative Judaism andReform Judaism 'sCentral Conference of American Rabbis . He was born inNew Orleans and educated and degreed atLouisiana State University in New Orleans , Memphis State University, Rabbinic training specifically at theHebrew Union College in Jerusalem and Cincinnati and Pepperdine University. His master’s thesis was entitled “The Marketing of Jesus: an analysis of propaganda techniques utilized by Christian Missionaries in their attempt to proselytize the American Jew.” His doctoral dissertation was titled: “Nachamu, Nachamu Ami, Comfort Ye, Comfort Ye My People – Counseling the bereaved and distraught after a loss.” In June 2007, Rabbi Stiebel was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles.Rabbi Stiebel is proprietor of Mediation Matters of California, a company that mediates family conflict and divorces. He also does family and palliative counseling. He is the author of many papers and articles and has written considerable liturgy including two prayer books (Shabbat Morning Siddur) “Am Segula” and (Erev Shabbat Siddur) “Lecha Dodi.” He continually publishes Divrei Torah (Bible Commentary) in Torah Fax.
During Rabbi Stiebel’s professional career, he has served Jewish congregations in Houston (TX), Mobile (AL), Reno (NV) and Jacksonville Beach (FL). He is Past President of the Houston Board of Rabbis; Past President of the Mobile (AL) Clergy Association and the Clear Lake (TX) Clergy Association. He was a board member of the American Red Cross. Rabbi Stiebel served as a member of the Medical Ethics Committee of the University of Texas Hospital (Galveston, TX).
Stiebel has lectured widely on a wide variety of Jewish subjects. He was a fellow at the
Buber Institute for Conservative Judaism in Jerusalem. He is a decorated combatVietnam veteran and is a member ofJewish War Veterans . He currently makes his home inWoodland Hills, California . Stiebel is married to Judy Stiebel and has two children, Dr. Dara Stiebel and Cary Stiebel.
