- Raymond Arsenault
Raymond Arsenault is the
John Hope Franklin Professor of Southern History and co-director of the [http://www.stpt.usf.edu/coas/florida_studies/index.htm Florida Studies Program] at theUniversity of South Florida ,St. Petersburg . He is best known for his work on the 1961Freedom Rides , a critical event in the Civil Rights movement.A specialist in the political, social, and environmental history of the
American South , Arsenault has also taught at theUniversity of Minnesota ,Brandeis University , and at theUniversite d’Angers , inFrance , where he was aFulbright Lecturer in 1984-85. He has served as a consultant for numerous museums and public institutions, including theNational Park Service , theNational Civil Rights Museum , theRosa Parks Museum , and theUnited States Information Agency .He holds a B.A. from
Princeton University (1969) and a PhD in history from Brandeis University.Dr. Arsenault is currently a visiting professor at the
University of Chicago and professor of history at the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg, Florida.Publications
