The kibbutz was established in 1942 by members of the
Hashomer Hatzair group who had immigrated fromCzechoslovakia andPoland . It's name refers to the first furrow ploughed in a field. The analogy was presented inAbraham Hertzfeld 's speech about settlement in the area in which he saw its establishment as being the first of many. The locality ofKetzir-Herish (meaning "Harvest" and "Plowing") was founded soon after.Due to its location near
Wadi Ara , it was on the front line during the1948 Arab-Israeli War and was attacked by theIraqi Army .
