History
Kaurna Aborigines
The Kaurna people (pronounced "Garner" or "Gowna") people were the Indigenous inhabitants of the Adelaide region, numbering approximately 650 in 1842.
Origin of the name
Lenswood developed practically as an extension of Forest Range and in time became the major community, headed by the Lenswood Co-operative Cold Store. When in 1917 the district's first post office opened, a name was sought. Lenswood was chosen - towards the end of World War I the French town of Lens was bruised and battered from years of battle; the name symbolized that horrific conflict, and remembered the many district men who served in it.
