MADtv (season 13)

MADtv (season 13)

"MADtv"'s thirteenth season premiered on September 15, 2007 and ended on May 17, 2008 with sixteen episodes (four clip show episodes, three episodes done during the WGA strike featuring pretaped sketches and reruns of past sketches, and nine episodes filmed at the Music Box Theater).

eason summary

"MADtv" began its thirteenth season with some significant changes to its cast, shooting schedule, and format. Three of the eleven cast members from season twelve departed: Ike Barinholtz, Frank Caeti, and Nicole Randall Johnson. Cast members Crista Flanagan, Keegan-Michael Key, Bobby Lee, Michael McDonald, Arden Myrin, Nicole Parker, and Jordan Peele returned for season thirteen. Johnny A. Sanchez also joined "MADtv" as its first new repertory player. Featured players for season thirteen were Anjelah Johnson, Dan Oster, and Daheli Hall. The show was taped at the Henry Fonda Music Box Theater in Hollywood because Fox executives believed a "live-event feeling" would enhance the showFact|date=May 2008. Due to budget cuts, most of the sketches were shot on location rather than in the theater with little use of props or costumes. An increased use of featured players and guest stars marked season thirteen.

With the exception of the opening sequence and live action on-stage (i.e., opening monologue and show close), sketches are now shown in 4:3 letterbox format and filmed on location.

MADtv went on hiatus between November 24 and February 2 due to the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America strike. Even though the writers' strike didn't end until February 12, the episodes for February 2, 9, and 16 consisted of pretaped sketches from planned episodes that ended up being cancelled due to the strike and repeats of old sketches from seasons 8-10 (with no segments from the Music Box Theater). The show returned to its normal format on March 29, 2008.

Opening montage

The opening title sequence for season thirteen has been dramatically redesigned. The original "MADtv" song used for the previous twelve seasons has been completely replaced by random snippets of drum and guitar music. (The first four episodes used small snippets from the original theme song.) The show also has a new announcer.
