Columbia College is a community college located in the Yosemite Community College District in Sonora, California. Established in September 1968 as Columbia Junior College, the college dropped "Junior" in 1978. The architectural style of the college is that of California during the Gold Rush era. Columbia College has one of the best fire academies in the state. The college also has a fire department on campus that is staffed by an on duty crew of at least two personnel daily.
The college was formed in 1968 by the College District Board of Trustees. Attendance in 2009 was around 2,338.[1] Dr. Richard Jones is the current interim president, serving since August 2010.[2]
