- Reed Hundt
Reed E. Hundt (born
March 3 1948 inAnn Arbor, Michigan ) was chairman of the United StatesFederal Communications Commission from 1993 to 1997. Appointed by PresidentBill Clinton , he served for most of Clinton's first term. He was succeeded byWilliam Kennard . He oversaw the introduction of spectrum auctions and the implementation of theTelecommunications Act of 1996 that reduced substantially the rates for international telecommunications service.After leaving the FCC, Hundt has worked as an advisor to
McKinsey & Company and to theBlackstone Group . He has also joined the board of several technology companies, including Intel Corp., where he took the seat of legendary iconGordon Moore upon Moore's retirement. In addition, Hundt is on the advisory board ofYale School of Management . He has written "You Say You Want A Revolution: A Story of Information Age Politics" (Yale:2000) and "In China's Shadow: The Crisis of American Entrepreneurship" (Yale: 2006) as part of theFuture of American Democracy Foundation 's Future of American Democracy Series.Hundt earned a B.A. with Exceptional Distinction in History from
Yale College (1969) (where he served as executive editor of the "Yale Daily News ") and a law degree fromYale Law School (1974) where he was a member of the executive board of theYale Law Journal . From 1975 to 1993 he practiced law atLatham & Watkins .Hundt is an advisor to
Barack Obama on technology and communications issues. He also serves on the board of the non-profit public interest groupPublic Knowledge .His most recent published articles include:
