Jaishankar Menon

Jaishankar Moothedath Menon (Kerala, India, August 9, 1956) is an IBM employee who contributed to RAID technology. Menon is currently responsible for shaping IBM's technical strategy as the Vice-President of Technical Strategy, and he leads IBM's efforts to work with academia to establish innovative research programs and to build skills needed for the 21st century innovation economy.

Menon received a degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in 1977, and he earned an M.S. and a Ph.D. in computer science at the Ohio State University.

In 1982, he joined IBM's research team in San Jose, California, where he developed RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) technology. He has written 23 RAID papers and holds 27 RAID patents. Jai went on to become responsible for all worldwide Research in storage systems in IBM^{[citation needed]}. He initiated the IBM SAN Volume Controller. He co-authored a paper on the design and architecture of cached disk controllers, now used routinely in every disk controller in the industry^{[citation needed]}.

He holds more than 50 U.S Patents.^[vague] In 2001, Jai was named an IBM Fellow, and he also is Vice-Chair of IBM's Academy of Technology.
