The Wharton India Economic Forum (WIEF), established in 1996 at The
Wharton School , is a student-run business forum in theUnited States focused onIndia . WIEF's mission is to raise the profile of the economic potential of India. The WIEF annual conference is a platform for participants to interact with decision makers and engage with faculty from the world's leading business schools.Through its forum, which includes a conference and speaker engagements, WIEF seeks to stimulate dialogue between current and future business leaders. In recent years, 600 attendees have gathered to exchange ideas with business figures, policy makers, working professionals and students from several graduate and undergraduate institutions. The Wharton India Economic Forum is not to be confused with World Islamic Economic Forum ( WIEF) , which is headquarted in Malaysia. Formerly known as the OIC Business Forum, the Forum was renamed to reflect the inclusion of Muslim business communities in other parts of the world and also to include the participation of the non-Muslim business community interested to establish good business relationships with the Muslim world. The inaugural WIEF took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in October 2005. The 2nd WIEF took place in Islamabad, Pakistan in September 2006. In 2007, Kuala Lumpur hosted the 3rd WIEF, while the State of Kuwait hosted the 4th WIEF in May 2008.
