Ivan Andreyevich Flyorov (Flyorov, _ru. Иван Андреевич Флёров) (
April 24 ,1905 –October 7 ,1941 ),captain of theRed Army , was the commander of the first battery of 8 "Katyusha s" (BM-8), which was formed inLipetsk and onJuly 14 ,1941 was used in a battle against the German army atOrsha inBelarus , with shock effect on the enemy and mass casualties: a single salvo destroyed several German freight trains with ammunition, fuel and tanks, annihilating the station itself.In autumn 1941, Flyorov's battery was surrounded stuck in swamps by the Ugra River and heavily shelled by mortars. After running out of ammunition, Flyorov ordered to destroy the machines. During the escape from the encirlement Flerov was killed, together with over 75% of his command.
