Camryn Elizabeth "Cam or Cami" Barnes (born Apalla DuBaer on October 31, 1986 [The first book, "The Power of Two" was published in the year 2001, in which the twins were 14 years old in the fall of their sophomore year of high school, which was in fall 2001. In the last book, "Destiny's Twins" (2004), the twins are 16.] ) is a fictional character and one of the two main characters from the popular book series by H. B. Gilmour and Randi Reisfeld called "T*Witches".

Character background

Cam is the daughter of Aron and Miranda DuBaer and twin sister of Alexandra Fielding, or Artemis DuBaer who was born as the moon was setting and wears the moon amulet. Cam, the younger twin, was born as the sun was rising, and wears the sun amulet. Cam was born as Apolla, and her twin sister Alex who is two minutes older, as Artemis. Their names are deviated from the legendary twins Artemis and Apollo, Greek gods of the moon and sun. The powerful amulets were made by the twins' father Aron DuBaer before he was killed by their uncle, Thantos. When together, the twins are stronger and more powerful than when they are alone, especially when their amulets are attached; thus making it easier for Thantos to find them and use them to his advantage. In order to protect the twins and their magic, their Coventry guardians Ileana DuBaer and Karsh send each twin to be raised by separate human parents (Protectors) in the United States.

Cam is sent to the fictional town of Marble Bay, Massachusetts, or suburban Boston to live with Dave and Emily Barnes, a couple who had always wanted a child but couldn't so they decided to adopt Cam. Dave, a lawyer, adopted her from Karsh by private adoption. He knows of Cam's powers but does not know of the Coventry world, and his wife Emily does not know about it at all. Nearly a year later, the Barneses conceived a child for the first time, and Cam's little brother Dylan is born, making him the Barneses' second child. The family now consists of Cam, the older sister and adopted child; and Dylan, the younger brother and biological child; although Cam herself never knew she was adopted until she was 14.

Cam grew up in a well-to-do neighborhood in Marble Bay, living a happy childhood. She is smart, upbeat, and popular. She is a member of the Six Pack (name courtesy of her father Dave) – a group of teenage girls who are the best friends forever, a preppy high school clique. Her best friend is Elisabeth Fish, known to Cam as Beth or Bethie.

Although Cam has had dreams of Karsh and the Coventry world as a little girl, her first encounter of her magical powers was at a school soccer game when she accidentally blinds an opponent while attempting to score a goal. She especially remembers this because after the game she blames herself for making the team lose. As the school's star athlete, she had never allowed their team to lose before and she blinded a girl on the other team during the game. Also, she has always had premonitions. It is then that she suspects something must be up and wrong with her.

For summer vacation, the Barneses and Beth make a trip to Big Sky, an amusement park in rural Montana, where Alex lives and works. The family arrange to stay at a place owned by Mr. Sot Noht. At Big Sky, Cam and Beth meet Alex, Lucinda, and Evan, in which everyone is convinced that Cam and Alex are identical except the twins themselves, who at first are so stunned they are in denial. It is the first time the twins have ever met. After the discovery of a mysterious twin sister, Cam is upset at her adoptive parents for keeping her adoption a secret from her, and develops a strong interest in learning more about her past.

Attributes

Cam is 5'4" tall and has the same build as her twin sister. She has long, straight, auburn hair in which she sometimes wears in a bun or ponytail. She and her sister have gray eyes, and their cousin Ileana and mother Miranda also have gray eyes. The twins' birth was foretold by their ancestors long before they were born, called the "La Prophetic Aux Yeux Gris" ("The Prophecy of the Gray Eyes").

Powers

Cam's powers are pyrokinesis, clairvoyance, hyperactive sight, blinding people temporarily, and telepathy.

Relationships

Cam's boyfriends throughout the series have been with Shane Antayus Wright and Jason Weissman. In the end, she stays with Jason.

Film differences

In the film version, Cam is 21 years old, her middle name is Elizabeth, and has curly, dark brown hair. She is the outgoing, lighthearted, and fun-loving twin. She's always up when the sun rises, and draws pictures of Coventry and their mother. She wants to learn more about Coventry and use the magic she and her sister possess. But she gets scared when the Darkness attacks them. She doesn't want to save Coventry anymore, and leaves. But, luckily she has a change of heart and helps her sister, save Coventry and return to her home for cake, with their mother, Miranda.

Cam is portrayed by Tamera Mowry in the 2005 Disney Channel Original Movie "Twitches", and is portrayed again by Mowry in the 2007 Disney Channel Original Movie "Twitches Too".
