The '20th century in United States history' refers to the period in the United States from 1901 through 2000 in the Gregorian calendar.

The 20th century is known as the American Century on account of the United States' emergence as the sole superpower during the course of the century.

Early 1900s

* World War I
* Populism and progressivism were political movements that reached its height in early 20th-century America, as reformers sought to correct problems that arose in the rapidly industrializing society, such as child labor, environmental concerns and the expansion of monopolies and trusts. Some tactics used to combat these issues included the founding of Settlement houses like Jane Addams' Hull House in Chicago, using referendums and direct election of politicians to further strengthen the voice of an average American, and the organizing the labor forces into trade unions
