In terms of its cadastral division, Ripponlea is in the parish of Prahran within theCounty of Bourke .The suburb is named after Ripponlea railway station, which itself is named after the historic
Rippon Lea Estate .The estate takes its name from Emma Rippon, the mother the mansion's original owner, Frederick Sargood. After Sargood's death in 1903, some of his property was subdivided to form the current suburb of Ripponlea.
Since 1909, Ripponlea has been the site of
Caulfield Grammar 's Senior School. TheAustralian Broadcasting Corporation 's Ripponlea television studios were built in 1954.Gallery
