Roepie Kruize

Roepie Kruize

Jan Hendrik "Roepie" Kruize (January 18, 1925 – February 14, 1992) is a former field hockey player from The Netherlands, who was one of the Netherlands's most famous players in the years following World War II. He won the bronze medal with the Dutch Men's Team at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, followed by the silver medal, four years later in Helsinki.

Born in Heemstede, Noord-Holland, Kruize scored the impressive amount of 69 goals in just 56 international matches. None of his three sons, all of them field hockey players for the Netherlands (Hans, Hidde and Ties), bettered that average in later years. In the late 1960s Kruize was the head coach of the Dutch National Men's Team for one year. He died in Den Haag, aged 67.
