"Grown Ups" was a short-lived U.S. sitcom that aired on the UPN network from 1999 to 2000, starring Jaleel White as J. Calvin Frazier. It was a chance for White to shed his Steve Urkel image.
Cancellation
The show was cancelled on a cliffhanger that was never resolved. J got the idea that his on-again-off-again girlfriend Melissa (Tammy Townsend) was planning to marry another man. In actuality, Melissa's best friend, also named Melissa, was the one getting married. J encountered "his" Melissa in a bar and proposed to her merely to keep her from marrying someone else; to his surprise, she accepted. J then nervously announces to his friends, "I'm getting married." (This was one of three sitcoms that UPN cancelled on cliffhangers that year, the other ones being "Malcolm & Eddie" and "Moesha".)
