Matutum Volcano, is a
volcano on the island of Mindanao in thePhilippines . It is 15 km north ofPolomolok ,South Cotabato and about 30 km north-northwest ofGeneral Santos City (6°22'N, 125°06.5'E).Physical features
Matutum is a
stratovolcano that rises 2,286 meters with a base diameter of 25 km.It has 2
hot springs , called Akjmoan and Linan, 5.7 km of west-southwest of the volcano and its adjacent volcanic edifices are Landayao, Tampad and Albulhek, which are all west of the volcano, and Magolo in the north.There is a well-preserved 320-m-wide crater at the volcano's summit. The crater is breached by three gorges and has a 120-m-deep, densely forested floor.
Eruptions
Volcanologists have suspect that Matutum may have had aphreatic explosion on March 7, 1911.Matutum is one of the 22 active volcanoes in the Philippines:
Babuyan Claro ,Banahaw ,Bulusan ,Mount Biliran ,Bud Dajo , Cagua,Camiguin de Babuyanes , Didicas,Hibok-Hibok ,Iraya ,Mount Iriga ,Mount Kanlaon ,Leonard Kniaseff ,Makaturing ,Mayon ,Musuan ,Mount Parker (Cotabato) ,Pinatubo ,Ragang ,Smith Volcano , Taal. They are all part of the so-called "Pacific ring of fire ."External links
