History

The Andres Soriano Memorial College was established as a school at the request of the Soriano family, on behalf of the Atlas Consolidated Mining Development Corporation, to Br. Philip Nelan FSC, who was then the Sub-Provincial of the Philippine Sub-District. It was opened in 1965 (ASMC - La Salle was named or known before as Andres Soriano Memorial School - La Salle or ASMS - La Salle).

Since its establishment, the De La Salle Brothers have supervised the school through formal contracts and contacts or through its Board of Trustees. By an act of the District Council of the De La Salle Brothers in the Philippines in 1995, the school became a District Affiliate School.

In 2000, the school was granted college status by the Commission on Higher Education and in 2004, the Brothers community at La Salle Green Hills adopted it as its outreach school. On July 3, 2006, by a decision of the District Council and the National Mission Council of De La Salle Philippines, the ASMC was accepted as a District School. The ceremony of acceptance took place on the campus and was witnessed by its students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and personnel of the Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corporation.

Lutopan as the place is commonly known, lives by its official name as Brgy. Don Andres Soriano (DAS), Toledo City.

Activities

Every July 19, De La Salle ASMC conducts a mass in the BTCC (Brother Thomas Cannon Center) and a Variety Show in the evening with various introduction numbers, to celebrate their Foundation Day. In August, they start their Buwan ng Wika or National Language Month, where they honor the Filipino culture by dressing up in their barong at saya and barong tagalogs in school, and participate in activities.

Somewhere in December, they conduct the Prince and Princess Coronation Night--an activity that involves participating students to perform a dance routine with their grade classmates on stage (BTCC). Then a school play proceeds, and a number of various introduction numbers follow. They also conduct Book Fairs in their auditorium.

During March, the Seniors (4th year high school graduating students) attend their Graduation Ceremony together with the Grade 6 graduating students. The Seniors wear white graduation gowns, and the 6th graders wear nile green graduation gowns.

Throughout the whole school year (June to March), they also conduct an HGP (Homeroom Guidance Program) Awardees and Academic Achievers Ceremonies four times a year: one for the 1st quarter, one for the 2nd quarter, one for the third and one for the fourth. Students participating in the Awarding Ceremonies receive a certificate or certificates. The Students' Recognition (the 4th Awarding Ceremony) they hold is the giving out of gold medals to medalists—students who have exceeded in their grade level score [for example: Grade 6 - 89.5]. Students can also receive medals for receiving 5 HPG certificates in the school year, and by excelling in subjects, such as Art, Social Studies, Performing Arts, Mathematics, Science, etc.

The school also hold Girl Scout/Boy Scout Camporees in the school areas, and Leadership Training for interested students. In Leadership Trainings, students spend 1–3 days in school to learn about the basics in becoming great leaders.

Once a year, the school conducts an Educational School Tour/Trip for each grade level/pod in the city and Recollections and Retreats in known Catholic places.

Uniform

The female students wear a green pleated skirt (has to be longer than knee-length), a white blouse with a flat collar and the school seal, a green tie/necktie for high school students, white socks, and a pair of black shoes. The male students, however, wear brown khaki pants, a white polo shirt with the school seal on it, white socks, and black shoes. Students are oftentimes required to wear their school ID.

Organizations

The school offers a lot of club organizations, such as, the: Art Club = students do all kinds of arts and crafts.

Publications Club = students (mostly high school students) create, edit, and publish the school paper, The Colonel's Insights.

Science Club = students perform several scientific experiments.

Athletics Club = students engage in sports and athletic activities.

Young Performers Club = students dance and sing for their introduction numbers in school activities.

Dance Club = students create dance routines for introduction numbers to be performed in school activities.

Glee Club = students use different kinds of instruments, and/or perform by singing in solo, by pairs, or in groups.

Quiz Bowler's Club/Math Club = students practice advanced Math/Algebra/Trigonometry lessons to compete in Math Competitions in District, Division, Regional, and National contests.

Legion of Mary = female students engage themselves in prayers and Catholic activities in honor of Mother Mary.

Young Writers Club = grade school students write articles (for journalists) and take photos (for photojournalists) for the school paper, and practice for competitions—usually the School's Press Conference held in a different school.

SSC/SSG/SPG = The Supreme Student Council (for college); the Supreme Student Government (for the high school) and the Supreme Pupil Government (for the grade school) chooses willing and exemplary students to run for any position. After approximately a month, the students cast their votes, and the school directors also choose honest, truthful, and reliable students as COMELEC (Commission on Elections) to count the votes of each candidate. ...etc.

Education

Most of De La Salle ASMC's subjects—especially the three core subjects: Math; English; and Science—are at least a year advanced to those of public schools. Every last week of the month, the school has a Periodical Test that the students take to test their skills if they have learned anything at all during their lessons. Also, every June the school gives the students a CEM Pretest and every March, the school gives the students a CEM Post-test--a test including every lesson they studied in the current school year—to test if they have learned anything. After the tests, students who passed the four CEM Tests: Math; English; Filipino; and Science, will receive a certificate during the first Awarding Ceremonies of the year.
