Monsignor Martinez

Monsignor Martinez

Monsignor Martinez is a fictional character from "Los Dias y Las Noches de Monsignor Martinez," a show-within-a-show on the hit cartoon-series "King of the Hill".

On "King of the Hill," (fictional) actor Eduardo Felipe plays Monsignor Martinez, a crime-fighting priest known for action-movie-like adventures. Usually, only small clips of his television show are shown in "King Of The Hill", although in one episode Peggy Hill travels to Felipe's home in Mexico to tutor his children.

In his TV series, Monsignor Martinez is known to say "Vaya Con Dios", which means "go with God", before killing one of his nemeses. Although public-shy, Felipe often does charitable work with sick children. Felipe is often asked to say his phrase "vaya con Dios", much to his chagrin. In episode 8-05 "Flirting With The Master", he refuses and is called a "pant load" by an irate fan.

Monsignor Martinez/Eduardo Felipe is voiced by series creator Mike Judge.

In 2001, Fox ordered a live-action pilot titled "Monsignor Martinez". [ [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0282313/ Monsignor Martinez (2000) (TV) ] ] Ivo Cutzarida played Martinez. However, the pilot was not picked up as a series. David Herman, who appeared in a supporting role, recalled in an interview that the pilot was very funny and full of social commentary but that "I don't think [Fox] wanted a Catholic priest going around shooting at people." The character may have been inspired by Gerry Anderson's Supermarionation series The Secret Service, which revolved around a priest moonlighting as a secret agent.
