Overview and history
The Western Provident Association was founded in 1901 by a group of workers who got together and put their hard earned wages into a fund that covered the cost of their health care. Over a century later and the fund has become WPA, remaining true to the principle of high quality, affordable health care. Based in Somerset, WPA provides cover for individuals and companies alike. WPA was voted 29th in the 100 Best Companies To Work For, in 2005 by The Sunday Times.
Provident status
As a Provident Association WPA does not have shareholders, which means that any surplus made from the business of health insurance is reinvested into the care of their customers.
