Ivy Williamson

Ivy Williamson

Ivan 'Ivy' Williamson was the head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers football program from 1949 to 1955. Previously he had been head football coach at Lafayette College (1947-48). During his tenure at Wisconsin, he compiled a 41-19-4(.672) record. His best season came in 1951, when his team went 7-1-1(5-1-1). The following season, in 1952, he led Wisconsin to its first share of the Big Ten conference title in 40 years. After his retirement from coaching, he became the school's athletic director, a position in which he remained until 1969. He was born in Prairie Depot, Ohio (now known as Wayne, Ohio), and attended high school in Bowling Green, Ohio. He then attended the University of Michigan, where he played basketball and football. Williamson was first-team All-Big Ten in football in 1931 and 1932 and was captain of the 1932 national champion Michigan football team. He also served as the head basketball coach at Yale University for the 1946-47 season.
