The 2005
Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup ran from June through September, 2005, open to allsoccer teams in the United States.Although the
Los Angeles Galaxy won the championship with a 1-0 victory over fellowMajor League Soccer sideFC Dallas , the tournament featured several runs by underdogs. TheDes Moines Menace of thePremier Development League beat twoUSL First Division teams to reach the Fourth Round. TheMinnesota Thunder of theUSL First Division beat three MLS teams in succession to reach the semifinals. TheRochester Raging Rhinos continued to play to record crowds and beat theMetroStars before losing in a shootout to the Chicago Fire.
