Bromley-by-Bow station is a
London Underground station on the District and Hammersmith and City lines, located in Bromley by Bow in eastLondon . It is in both Zone 2 and Zone 3.The station was opened as Bromley by the
London, Tilbury and Southend Railway in 1858.District Line service began in 1902, with the Hammersmith & City Line (then theMetropolitan Line ) following in 1936. LTSR services were withdrawn in 1962. The station was renamed to Bromley-by-Bow in 1967, to prevent confusion withBromley in theLondon Borough of Bromley .The station has two platforms serving the tube lines in both directions; two more platforms formerly served the LTSR (now
c2c ) but are no longer in use. It is situated on the A12Blackwall Tunnel northern approach. Devons Road station on theDocklands Light Railway is nearby, but this is not an official interchange.Bromley-by-Bow station has been earmarked for expansion and redevelopment as part of
London 's successful bid for the 2012 Olympics.In the
television soap "EastEnders ", Bromley-by-Bow's place on the tube map is taken by the fictionalWalford East station.On the
