Ginebra San Miguel made news when they won the First Conference championship by coming back from a 3-1 deficit to beat archrival Shell for the crown. Another rivalry loomed in the All-Filipino Conference as corporate rivals Purefoods TJ Hotdogs and Diet Sarsi faced off for the crown. Purefoods won the series, ending three years of perennial bridesmaid finish in that conference. The Ginebra squad came back in the Third Conference finals but lost to the Alaska Milkmen, who bagged their first PBA championship with import Sean Chambers leading them.Champions
