Begaljica

Begaljica (Serbian Cyrillic: Бегаљица) is a suburban settlement of Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. It is located in the municipality of Grocka.

Location

Begaljica is located in Podunavlje, northern Šumadija region, in the central part of the municipality. It is 5 km away from the municipal seat of Grocka (to which it makes a continuous built-up area along the road) and 35 km to the east from downtown Belgrade. West of Begaljica is "Begaljičko brdo" ("Begaljica Hill") with one of the steepest sections of the Belgrade-Niš highway.

Population

Begaljica is classified as a rural settlement (village). Population grew slowly or was stagnating for decades, but in recent years it began depopulating. Population of Begaljica:

Economy

Begaljica is outside of major roads and the agriculture is the most important for the settlement's economy. The most important of all is a fruit growing as the entire area is one of the most famous fruit producing area of Serbia, with vast orchards (apples, peaches, apricots, cherries, etc).

Rajinovac, female monastery of the Serbian Orthodox Church is located in the southern outskirts of the settlement.
