Thomas G. Palaima

Thomas G. Palaima (born October 6, 1951) is a Mycenologist, the Raymond F. Dickson Centennial Professor and the founding director of the Program in Aegean Scripts and Prehistory in the Department of Classics at the University of Texas at Austin. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He received his Ph.D. in Classics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1980.He received a MacArthur fellowship 1985-90 for work on Aegean scripts.

His recent interests include work on war and violence studies (http://www.utexas.edu/inside_ut/take5/palaima/ and http://residentassociates.org/otomay/war.asp) and work with providing poverty-level adults the opportunity to return to higher education through an innovative program focusing on teaching the humanities, broadly defined (http://www.humanitiesinstitute.utexas.edu/programs/minds/index.html).

He also has written extensively about Bob Dylan and his cultural influence (http://www.utexas.edu/research/pasp/publications/dylan/dylana.html).
