History
St. Jerome's University was established in 1865 as St. Jerome's College. In 1959 an Ontario government Act gave the College 'university status' and changed its name to the University of St. Jerome's College. St. Jerome's University does not grant degrees. In 1959, St. Jerome's University entered into a federation with the University of Waterloo. St. Jerome's suspended its degree-granting powers and became a branch of the University of Waterloo. In 1998, St. Jerome's changed its name to St. Jerome's University. St. Jerome's University offers undergraduate courses in the faculties of Arts and Mathematics, in 12 scholastic disciplines, and in 4 interdisciplinary areas (Italian Studies, Legal Studies and Criminology, Medieval Studies, and Sexuality, Marriage, and the Family). St. Jerome's has a “Master of Catholic Thought” program aimed primarily at Catholic social leaders. In partnership with Intercordia Canada, St. Jerome's offers a distance learning option, the Intercordia Program in one of several countries.
