Ana Moura (born in 1980, in Santarém, Portugal) is a Portuguese fado singer, and the youngest fadista to be nominated for a Dutch Edison Award.

Biography

Moura was born in Santarém from Portuguese-Angolan parents and grew up in Carcavelos, near Lisbon. Her family supported Moura's interest in music, and after experiment with various styles, she eventually settled on Fado.

Career

Moura's career started in the Fado house of Lisbon "Senhor do Vinho", where she was discovered by Maria da Fé. Fado producer Jorge Fernando helped produce her first and second albums, "Guarda-me a vida na mão" and "Aconteceu", respectively. In 2005 "Aconteceu" received a nomination for the Dutch Edison Award in the category World International. 2005 also saw Moura performing at Carnegie Hall, New York to a sold-out audience. She also performed to a sold-out audience at Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

In her late teens, Moura started singing pop and rock music with a local band, but has always included one fado in each performance.
