All 32 teams are ranked on the following criteria, which has been used by FIFA for previous tournaments [http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/060718/1/8sse.html] :
#Stage reached. Teams in blue reached the semifinals, orange were eliminated in the quarterfinals, green in the round of 16, and grey were eliminated in group play.
#Points earned. 3 for a win, including in extra time; 1 for a draw, including a game that was decided in penalties; 0 for a loss, including in extra time. A 1 in brackets in the draw column indicates a draw lost on penalties, while a * indicates a draw won on penalties.
#Goal difference. Includes knockout play.
#Goals scored. Includes knockout play. This ranking is consistent with the 1998 and 2002 rankings used in seeding the teams.
