The Centrist Party was created on July 4, 2006 as a self-declared response to the stalemate between the Republican Party and Democratic Party in the previous two presidential elections. Founded by John P. Reisman, by design it intended to provide the electorate with a middle ground foundation for Republican and Democratic politicians and voters.

Background

The Centrist Party was registered in 2006 with the Federal Election Commission and attempted to organize nationally.

In 2004, Morris N. Guller, a member of the Centrist Party, ran for the United States House of Representatives in New York's 20th congressional district, earning 0.5% of the vote (election results).
