Joel Gion (born
1971 ) is an Americanindie rock percussionist . He is a member ofSan Francisco based band,The Dilettantes and a founding member of theneo-psychedelic rock band,The Brian Jonestown Massacre .He was a guest star on the U.S. television show

Referred to as "Spokesman of the Revolution," Gion played
tambourine and occasionally sung backing vocals. He appears in the 2004 documentary "DiG! ", and is featured prominently on the cover of the DVD of the same film. His image is also on the cover of the Brian Jonestown Massacre album, "Thank God For Mental Illness ". (Incidentally, a very distended image of him can be seen on "Give It Back! "). He stayed with the Brian Jonestown Massacre the longest of any its members, save band leaderAnton Newcombe .He rejoined The Brian Jonestown Massacre for their 2006 tour, and is participating on the BJM's 2008 tour. Besides the tambourine, he notably plays the
maraca s and, as he once said, contributes many "musical ideas". He currently works forAmoeba Music inSan Francisco .The Dilettantes
Gion now fronts the
San Francisco -basedneo-psychedelic /garage/indie rock band, The Dilettantes. Their debut album, the aptly titled "101 Tambourines", was released on July 24, 2007.References
