- Expo 2015
Expo 2015 is the next scheduled Universal Exposition after
Expo 2010 , and will be hosted byMilan ,Italy . The decision was taken by the BIE assembly in Paris, on March 31, 2008. Milan beat the other candidate city,Izmir ,Turkey by 21 votes, 86 to 65.The event will be held under the theme "Feeding the planet, energy for life".
Location
regards the creation of a technology park focussing on innovative healthcare and environmental solutions, with a particular focus on low-emissions public transport.
The specific location has produced an extremely rich and integrated infrastructure:
* The metro Line 1 1 connects the site to the city's public transport network, the existing Molino Dorino parking facilities and a new car park planned at the Fairgrounds.
*Three motorways - the A4 Turin-Milan-Venice, the A8/A9 Milan-Como Chiasso and Milan-Varese, plus the western orbital road which joins the A1 Milan-Rome-Naples motorway to the south. Access roads further supplement these routes, freeing local traffic from that in transit to and from the Expo site.
*A high-speed rail link will have its own station near the east entrance to the complex as well as serving two local railway lines connecting to the Milan metro.
*The site's geographical location, equidistant fromLinate ,Malpensa andOrio al Serio Airport allowing rapid access to Milan's three airports.election process
İzmir's bid
İzmir was the other candidate city, whose bid theme was "New Routes to a Better World/Health for All".
Its bid would have made it the first fair in the Eastern Mediterranean with a health theme. İzmir officials had promised to create a newly designed, large [http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2261/1569455573_793dd545d8_o.jpgexhibition area] (3.7 million m2) in
İnciraltı , a coastal suburb of the city; a high-speed train connection between major cities (likeAnkara andIstanbul ); and the existing city metro system and its recently improved airport would have been further developed. There was likely to have been wide ranging investment in the city. It was also planned that the most extensive archaeological museum in the world be developed based on the archaeological richness of the İzmir region. The Izmir team also used the slogan "Izmir Population: 70 million" to promote Izmir's bid. Its "Bid Dossier" included a detailed description of the plans to finance and organize the event [http://www.expoizmir2015.org/pdf/expo2015izmir.pdf] . Although the 70 million claim was not a direct part of this document, the income estimates were based on multiple trips to the Expo by local and neighboring citizens as well as by tourists visiting Turkey.
The location of the Expo site in the outer suburbs of İzmir was planned to allow visitors to Expo to combine their visit with access to local beaches. İnciraltı is a pleasant, green, coastal suburb boasting fish restaurants and a relaxed atmosphere.
Balçova is only a small distance from the then anticipated EXPO site and the view of İnciraltı can be seen from cable cars that climb up Balçova mountain.Unconfirmed bids
