José Javier Barkero Saludes, Barkero (born 27 April 1979 in Aretxabaleta, Basque Country), is a Spanish footballer, who currently plays midfielder for CD Numancia, in the Spanish first division.

Barkero came from the youth system of Real Sociedad. During eight seasons, he appeared sporadically with the first team (17 league contests maximum, in 2005-06), and served loans at SD Eibar and Toulouse FC.

In 2006-07, Barkero joined Albacete Balompié in the "Segunda División" where he remained for 2 seasons, as an undisputed starter (10 goals in 2007-08).

After CD Numancia gained promotion to the topflight, Barkero moved to the team from Soria, on July 2008. On September 14, he scored a wonderful long-range strike, in a 4-3 defeat at Real Madrid.
