Plaza at King of Prussia

Plaza at King of Prussia

The Plaza at King of Prussia is part of what is popularly referred to as the King of Prussia Mall, a huge shopping complex in King of Prussia, which is located in Upper Merion Township, Pennsylvania, in the United States.

The mall is located northwest of Philadelphia on Mall Boulevard, near the crucial juncture of the Schuylkill Expressway (Interstate 76) and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. U.S. Highway 422 and U.S. Highway 202 also meet at this interchange.

Its six department store anchors are Sears, JC Penney, Lord and Taylor, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom, with one department store vacant (the former Wanamaker's/Strawbridge's.)

Original 1963 anchors

*Acme Markets (location demolished in 1993, store relocated convert|1|mi|km|sing=on north on Dekalb Pike.)
*E. J. Korvette
*Gimbels "(became Stern's in 1986. Became J.C. Penney in early 1990s)"
*John Wanamaker "(Changed name to Hecht's in 1995, Strawbridge's in 1997, Macy's in 2006)"
*J.C. Penney "(moved to former Gimbels and Stern's location in early 1990s)
*Woolworth (demolished in 1993 and moved into enclosed section which now houses Foot Locker, part of the Woolworth's floor is still visible in a storage room behind the Foot locker)

1979 Snack stands

*The Purple Cow Icecream Hot Dogs & SuperPretzel Soft Pretzels

1981 expansion

*Sears
* The Garden Food Court

Clarification: Enclosing the exterior portions of mall completed in 1981. Sears 'Store of the Future' concept was not launched until 1983, per SearsArchives.com time line. The Plaza store was, in fact, part of the concept and therefore opened post-1983. Exact date needs confirmation. Garden Food Court (located on the site of Korvette's former loading dock, behind a "dead end" wall at Gimbel store) didn't open until shortly before Sears store opened.

1995-1996 expansion

*Lord & Taylor (opened Fall 1995)
*Nordstrom (opened Spring 1996)
*Neiman Marcus (opened Spring 1996)

quare Footage

*JCPenney (171,558 sq ft.)
*Lord & Taylor (120,000 sq ft.)
*"Vacant former Strawbridge's" (193,500 sq ft.)
*Neiman Marcus (138,775 sq ft.)
*Nordstrom (225,000 sq ft.)
