watershed = The Tatshenshini River ("Shäwshe Chù" inSouthern Tutchone ) is ariver in the southwesternYukon and the northwestern corner ofBritish Columbia . It originates in British Columbia, nearHaines Highway . It flows north into Yukon, then it turns west and south before itreturns into British Columbia, where it flows through theTatshenshini-Alsek Provincial Wilderness Park . There it joins theAlsek River , which then flows in thePacific Ocean inAlaska . It is a very popular river for wildernessrafting trips.History
Although this river was used as a vital trade route by First Nations, in particular the coastal
Tlingit people, the first Europeans to travel the Tatshenshini River were Jack Dalton andEdward Glave , accompanied by two native guides. After successfully navigating the River, Dalton established a trading post near the top of the Tatshenini, which flourished during theKlondike Gold Rush .It was designated a
