Leiden, The NetherlandsDied 26 September, 2011 Nationality Dutch Area(s) Cartoonist, Writer, Penciller Notable works Professor Julius Palmboom Dick Briel (born 29 December 1950, in Leiden, The Netherlands, died 26 September 2011) was a Dutch comic artist living in Amsterdam who follows the Ligne claire style. He is most famous for his Professor Julius Palmboom comics. So far, three adventures have been made, with a fourth in production.
The Professor Palmboom stories are science-fiction, dealing with things like killer plants. There are also some short stories in the second book. The third book was left "to be continued" but Ratcliffe Highway has not yet been released.
Briel also did the comic Hulbert and wrote a few others. Another book was released called Sketches from Victorian Times, though it is not an adventure. Briel died on September 26, 2011, after a battle with cancer.
