Vazhapadi (also Valapady and Valappadi) is a panchayat town in Salem district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Valappadi had a population of 16,121. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Valappadi has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 71%, and female literacy is 57%. In Vazhapadi, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.it is famous for coconut, tomatoes.Important national highway NH 68 which gives connectivity to chennai with salem,coimbatore,tirupur,erode and the cities around runs via vazhapadi.so the traffic in this highway is always high.so NH 68 is four laned in the year of 2008-2010, and because of traffic in vazhapadi bye-pass is laid which runs outer city of vazhapadi.
