Theog is a city and a municipal committee in Shimla district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.

Geography

Theog is located at coord|31.12|N|77.35|E| [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/11/Theog.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Theog] ] . It has an average elevation of 1965 metres (6446 feet).It is situated on National Highway NH22 (on the Hindustan-Tibet Road), a 32 km away from Shimla, and is a town of five 'Ghats' (or ridges): Rahi Ghat, Deori Ghat, Prem Ghat, Janoghat,and Bagaghat.

There are many villages which come under the jurisdiction of Theog. Chikhar is the most famous village in Theog.

People

Pahari is the main language spoken among people in Theog. The main occupation of the people in Theog is growing vegetable which include Cabbage, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Potato and Capsicum and also growing fruits which include Apples, Peach, Cherry and Apricots. Local peoples live a happy and healthy life, enjoy their culture full on. Women are quite reserved all around the town. This town has always remained center of state politics with famous political leaders like Mrs Vidya Stokes, Rajender Verma and Mr Rakesh verma.

15th and 16th August is celebrated whole heartedly in local Potato ground Theog. People come from all over that day.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Theog had a population of 3754. Males constitute 57% of the population and females 43%. Theog has an average literacy rate of 80%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 83%, and female literacy is 77%. In Theog, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
