Sunam is a city and a municipal council in Sangrur district in the Indian state of Punjab. This is the birth place of the famous patriot, Udham Singh.

Geography

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, [GR|India] Sunam had a population of 51,024. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Sunam has an average literacy rate of 62%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 66%, and female literacy is 57%. In Sunam, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Religious Importance

A local attraction, "Sitasar", a pond located in sunam, is said to be the place where Sita (wife of Lord Ram) washed her hair.
