A member of the National Assembly from the Essonne département, he was a member of the center right-wing UMP party until January 2007, and now heads his own party, Arise the Republic (DLR). He is co-president of the European political party EUDemocrats - Alliance for a Europe of Democracies. He is the mayor of Yerres, Essonne.

He intended to run in the 2007 French presidential election, but withdrew his candidacy on 16 March 2007 after failing to gather the necessary 500 signatures of elected officials.
