Donald D. Owens (born 1926) is a minister and emeritus general superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene.[1] He has planted a church in the US, established the Church of the Nazarene in Korea, been a professor, founded a seminary in the Philippines and served as the leader of the Church of the Nazarene for most of a decade.
While a member of the US Army from 1945 to 1946 Donald was stationed in the Philippines and Japan.[1] He earned a B.A. in 1951 and his Bachelors of Theology in 1952.[1] In 1968 he founded the Lake Overholser Church in Bethany Oklahoma .[1] In 1970 he earned an M.A. in 1970 and his Ph.D. in 1975 from the University of Oklahoma.[1] Donald served as a missionary pastor to South Korea, where he established the Church of the Nazarene.[1][2] He was also a professor at Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri.[2] In addition he was the founding president of Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary in Manila[2] and the president of MidAmerica Nazarene College (now University) in Olathe, Kansas from 1985 to 1989.[1][3]
At the 1989 General Assembly Owens was elected to the highest office in the Church of the Nazarene.[3] He served two terms being re-elected in 1993 until he retired in 1997.[1]
