WHIS (1440 AM) is a radio station in Bluefield, West Virginia. The call letters contain the initials of Hugh Ike Shott, who started the station. Radio broadcasting began with 100 watts of power when the station signed on at 6:00 PM June 27 1929 broadcasting from a tower on top of the twelve-story West Virginian Hotel in Bluefield. The radio station operates on 1440 kHz with a daytime power of 5KW and nighttime power of 500 watts. It operates a non-directional transmitter on Harry Heights Road, less than one mile north of the city limits of Bluefield. Its studios are located at 900 Bluefield Avenue in Bluefield, WV.

WHIS simulcasts at 1470 AM as WTZE serving Tazewell, Virginia.
