Laharpur is a city and a municipal board in Sitapur district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Geography

Laharpur is located at coord|27.72|N|80.9|E| [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/36/Laharpur.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Laharpur] ] . It has an average elevation of 133 metres (436 feet). Laharpur is a small town having population about 50,000. It is situated at 107 km north-west of the state capital Lucknow. It is a Sub Division, Block headquarter and sending a member in the state assembly. It is famous for being the seat of Qalandaria Order of Sufism and the Dargah of Great Saints Hazrat Shah Alauddin Ahmad Chirminaposh Suharwardi, Hazrat Shah Abdul Rahman Jaanbaaz Qalandar and Hazrat Shah Maja Qalandar are situated here. One of Mughal emperor Akbar's Navratan Raja Todarmal was born here in an brahmin family. Mr. Sanjay Puri has made a foundation on the name of Raja Todarmal as Raja Todarmal Smarak Samiti. Great Saint /poet Goswami Tulsidas also visited laharpur. Here once main business was dependent on weaving by local Ansari community but due to high cost and low profit this is almost finished. Baba Jangli Nath temple of Lord Shiva once really in the Jungle situated 3 km away. Another very famous temple in the city is Channu Laal Dwarka Prasad Mandir (Puri's Temple), it was built ~450 years ago as mention on the temples entrance gate in Mudiya language. It also has the oldest recognised madarsa in the District named Madarsa Ruknia Islamia which has produced very eminent and distinguished islamic scholars and freedom fighters such as Moulana Abul Wafa and Moulana Qasim. It is best known for strong private transport vehicle center of district.Laharpur is known for its Communal Harmony.Having a seizable proportion of the Hindu and Muslim Community the town has never witnessed any Communal Tensions.

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Laharpur had a population of 50,080. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Laharpur has an average literacy rate of 41%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 47%, and female literacy is 34%. In Laharpur, 19% of the population is under 6 years of age.
