metre s (613 feet). River Tel and Uteh meet not very far from Kesinga, providing appreciable ground for summer sand crops(cucumber, watermelon etc). Another landmark of Kesinga is Budhadangar (old mountain) at the middle of the town. This mountain has a profound affect on the climate of Kesinga.Demographics
As of 2001 Indiacensus [GR|India] , Kesinga had a population of 16,914. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Kesinga has an average literacy rate of 55%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 66%, and female literacy is 44%. Kesinga is the major rail head in Kalahandi district. It is considered as the gateway of Kalahandi.
Economy
Apart from being a railhead for the region, Kesinga also serves as the place of enormous business activity. It is the economic heart of surrounding area, where farmers can get a fare price for produce. There are scores of rice mills in Kesinga. A godown of FCI gives the storage facility for farmers and rice mill owners. There are numerous cloth stores in the market area which was deconstructed by administration.
Politics
The current MLA from Kesinga Assembly Constituency is Dhaneshwar Majhi of BJP, who won the seat in state elections in 2004 and also in 2000. Previous MLAs from this seat were Bhupinder Singh of INC in 1995, Kiran Chandra Singh Deo of JD in 1990, Bhupinder Singh of INC in 1985, Bhupinder Singh of INC(I) in 1980 and Nagendranath Choudhury of JNP in 1977.
