Jintur is a city and a municipal council in Parbhani district in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

Geography

Jintur is located at coord|19.62|N|76.7|E| [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/16/Jintur.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Jintur] ] . It has an average elevation of 455 metres (1492 feet).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Jintur had a population of 38,109. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Jintur has an average literacy rate of 63%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 69%, and female literacy is 56%. In Jintur, 16% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Jain Temple

Very ancient Jain Temple is situated 3 KM North of Jintur called Nemgiri. This has seven caves and Idols of Bhagvan Mahaveer, Bhagvan Adinath, Bhagvan Shantinath, Bhagvan Neminath, Bhagvan Parshwanath, Nandishwar and Bhagvan Bahubali. Bhagvan Neminath idol is the largest Padmasanastha Idol and Bhagvan Parshwanath Idol is rested on a small stone of about 3 to 4 inch diameter. This Idol is about 6 feet tall. It is an old temple and since last 400 years it is maintained by Sawji (Kalamkar) family.
