Jewar is a town and a "nagar panchayat" in Gautam Buddha Nagar District in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Overview

It is located in the outskirts of Greater Noida, [ [http://www.greaternoida.com/ Greater Noida] ] the district headquarters are located in NOIDA itself. It is about 60 km (35 miles) away from Noida, and one can come via Dankaur, Rabupura. An eight-lane Taj Expressway from Greater Noida to Agra via Jewar, Taj Special Economic Zone, and Taj International Airport is proposed and expected to come soon.

Jewar is situated a few kilometers northeast from the bank of the Yamuna River. In the west is Haryana state. Jewar itself is a "Tehsil", and well connected to many "tehsils" and districts by road namely Khurja, Sikandrabad, Bulandshahr, Khair, Aligarh and Palwal (District - Faridabad in Haryana).

Delhi is about 92 km 58 miles) from there and one can go via Faridabad, Palwal or via Ghaziabad, Sikandrabad, Jhajhar. The nearest railway stations are Khurja Junction (26 km or 16 miles), Chola (27 km) and Palwal (Haryana) (28 km or 18 miles). This town has a historical significance too as it was named after Maharshi Jaawali, a sage of ancient times. There is an Asharam and very old temple of the Maharshi, located 1 km (.5 miles) west of Jewar. The Ashram is surrounded by very ancient trees which form a part of wild forests of that time. One can see the Statue of Maharshi Jaawali, on the main crossing (Gol Chakkar) of Jewar. Jewar itself is a Vidhan Sabha area and falls under Khurja Lok Sabha area. Currently the MLA is Horam Singh (BSP) and MP is Ashok Pradhan (BJP). Jewar has three government senior secondary schools: Jain Inter College, Janta Inter College, Kanya Inter College, one High School: Kamar Technical, one Town School and many other convent schools. Jewar has one small government hospital and one private one (K.M. Jain Hospital operated by a trust of Jain Community).

Jewar is a BLOCK surrounded by hundreds of villages. Thousands of people visit Jewar daily for different purposes e.g. market, education, medical services etc. Jewar is also famous for Ghewar / Ghevar a traditional north Indian sweet available here in the monsoon season. Other interests include Devi Mandir, Daau ji Mandir (famous for Dau Ji Mela held in every September), Jaawali Rishi Ashram, Jain Mandir etc. [ [http://www.gbnagar.nic.in Gautam Buddh Nagar] ]

There is a Non Government Organisation (NGO) named "Babu Nath Memorial Health and Vocational Training Society" which is actively working for the upliftment of poor, handicapped, SC/ST/OBC and other general public. 180 admission has been done with a survey in February and March 2008 for the year 2008-09. The beneficiaries of the NGO are as under: 50 Craft Training Center for OBC, 50 Craft Training Center for SC, 40 Type & Shorthand for OBC & 40 Type and Shorthand SC. The classes has been commenced in April 2008.

Geography

It has an average elevation of 195 metres (639 feet).Village Dudhera is just 2.5 km (1.8 miles) north to Jewar and is the first village on Jewar - Rabupura - Noida road. Next important bus stop is HAMIDPUR with a adjacent village Syarol.

Demographics

Jewar is a historical place for many things. Here comes a famous temple of Baba CHETNATH, in KAROLI
DAYANATPUR village. One more famous temple of BHUDA WALI MAIYA (Goddess Durga) comes in Sirsa village.
A 2-3 days MELA is held every year in NAVRATRIS.
Both these religious places are mostly visited on SUNDAYS.As of the 2001 India census [GR|India] , Jewar had a population of 26,950. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Jewar has an average literacy rate of 48%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 57%, and female literacy is 37%. In Jewar, 20% of the population is under 6 years of age. Jewar is located in the outskirts of Greater Noida, and it lies in District G.B. Nagar, Gautam Budh Nagar (U.P.), 203135 & very famous village is there ROHI 8 KM far from the Jewar
