Jaspur is a city and a municipal board in Udham Singh Nagar district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Jaspur had a population of 39,048. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Jaspur has an average literacy rate of 60%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 67%, and female literacy is 52%. In Jaspur, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age. Hindi and Urdu are most common languages here but people also understand Punjabi and English.

Geography

Jaspur is located at coord|29.28|N|78.82|E|. [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/39/Jaspur.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Jaspur] ] It has an average elevation of 220 metres (722 feet). It is a small city only 45 km from the well known Corbett National Park, Ramnagar.

Culture

The majority of the population is Hindu and Muslim along with a smaller Sikh community. The city is an example of religious harmony. There has never been any incident of communal strife. All the people take part in other's festivals. Hindus are invited in Roja-Iftar party, Muslims also take part in Hindu festival Holi.

Economy

Although quite a few people in the city are self employed and run small shops, the economy of the city is mainly based on agriculture as there are no big industrial units in the city. If there is a good crop, the sale in the market is also going to be good. But if the crop is bad, it will affect everybody in the city. There are few middle scale factories in the city - Shiv Hari Plywood Factory, Shri Ram Solvent Extractions Pvt Ltd and Govt Sugar Mill. There are also has a good number of Rice Mills in the area. The city also has a big market for wooden building material. Jaspur also has lot of traditional & old model business shops, prominent of them are few like M/S Raja Ram Suraj Prakash, Radheshyam Anil Agrawal, Jaspur Mill Store, Agrawal Machinery Stores etc.

Education

There are four Senior Secondary schools, one Girls Senior Secondary School and one Girls degree college in the city.

Places of interest

There are many mango gardens around the city. Visitors passing by the city can can enjoy fresh mangoes.mainly jaspur is famous for kachri.
