Herrevad Abbey

Herrevad Abbey

Herrevad Abbey (Danish and Swedish: "Herrevadskloster") was a cistercian monastery near Ljungbyhed, Scania, in the south of present-day Sweden. It was founded from Citeaux Abbey in 1144 as Denmark's first monastery. During the reformation, the abbey was closed and confiscated by the Danish crown in 1546.

The continued history of Herrevad as a manor notably includes Tycho Brahe's discovery of the supernova SN 1572 in Cassiopeia and experiments with paper production.
