- Kunle Fagbenle
Kunle Fagbenle became the first lawyer of
Nigeria n descent to receive a Legal Excellence Award conferred by the Maryland Bar Foundation- USA. The award was conferred on him in recognition of his exemplary work in pioneering community change and empowerment in the economically depressed and predominantly black Jonestown onMaryland ’s easternshore. His work also repositioned state and local government agencies as well as community constituents embroiled in bitter, complex and controversial litigation with each other over responsibility for life threatening environmental hazards.Among his other accomplishments, Fagbenle holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Maryland School of Law (USA), and is a founding partner at the international law firm: Global-Lawyer (www.globallawyering.com) where he represents a variety of clients in transactional and litigation matters. His clients include multinational corporations, corporate executives, former presidents as well as other political figures. Recently, Fagbenle was appointed as the personal lawyer on international matters to the current President of Nigeria, President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR.
Fagbenle is a member of
Alpha Phi Alpha , the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African Americans.Some of his notable fraternity brothers include:former Jamaican Prime Minister and Rhodes Scholar Norman Manley, Nobel Prize winner Martin Luther King, Jr., former U.S. Vice President Hubert Humphrey, Olympian Jesse Owens, Justice Thurgood Marshall, former United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young, and former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson. Numerous other American leaders are among the men who have adopted the fraternity’s principles—manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind.
