David Koppel

David Koppel

David Koppel is a British photographer who started his career as a Fleet Street paparazzo in 1980s London, capturing the essence of the Me Decade. The subjects of Koppel's numerous photographs and portrait studies include Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton and Mohammed Ali.

In 1999 Koppel provided the photographs for Still Waters, a book of essays and portrait studies of the Norfolk Broads written by Miles Hedley. More recently, Koppel collaborated with artist John Kiki to create Pap Art[1], blending photography, digital image manipulation and traditional oil painting.

Koppel took over the Saint Giles Street Gallery[2] in Norwich in 2002, turning it into a spotlight for photographers in the Norfolk area, while not excluding artists in other media. Past exhibitions include photography by Michael Ward (accompanied by the launch of Ward's autobiography Mostly Women), Steve Taylor, Sally Soames, Julie Cook and Frank Herrmann.
