Shopaholic (novels)

"Shopaholic" is a series of novels written by the UK author Sophie Kinsella, who also writes under her real name Madeleine Wickham. As of February 2007, there are five books in the series. The entire series has been optioned by a Hollywood studio. On Sophie Kinsella's website, she stated that the first Shopaholic movie is in production.

"Confessions of A Shopaholic

The first book in the Shopaholic series, this book introduces us to Rebecca or Becky Bloomwood, later known as Rebecca Brandon. Becky has recently graduated college and lives with her best friend Suze in a trendy flat in the Fulham area of London. Becky's life seems fine until we find out her biggest secret: she's a hopeless shopaholic. Becky finds it impossible to manage her money and finds herself in increasing debt every month. Worse still and very ironic, Becky works as a financial journalist for the the magazine "Successful Saving". Becky tries in vain to "Cut Back" or "Make More Money" but still finds her world slowly crumbling down around her. Then, a scandal resulting in a front page article and controversy sparks a lasting change in her life and the lives of those around her.

Film

The first Shopaholic movie, "Confessions of a Shopaholic", is due to be released in February 2009. It is directed by P. J. Hogan and stars Isla Fisher as Rebecca and Hugh Dancy as Luke.
